Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day has a huge lot of different reasons behind its celebration. According to my awareness the root for this festivity is the reverence to Saint Valentine. Saint Valentine (in Latin, Valentinus) is the name of the several martyred saints of ancient Rome. The name “Valentine” is derived from valens (worthy). Although still providing no connections whatsoever with sentimental love, appropriate lore has been embroidered in modern times to portray Valentine as a priest who refused an unattested law attributed to Roman Emperor Claudius II, allegedly ordering that young men remain single. The emperor supposedly did this to grow his army, believing that married men did not make for good soldiers. The priest Valentine, however, secretly performed marriage ceremonies for young men. When Claudius found out about this, he had Valentine arrested and thrown in jail. In an embellishment to The Golden Legend provided by American Greetings, Inc. to History.com and widely repeated, on the evening before Valentine was to be executed, he wrote the first “Valentine” himself, addressed to a young girl variously identified as his beloved, as the jailer’s daughter whom he had befriended and healed, or both. It was a note that read “From your Valentine.”

As of now Valentine’s Day is celebrated by the young generation to put across their feeling of love to their beloved. The view we watch in this particular day is couples basking around in seashores, gardens or other pretty good hangout places. Everywhere there are appearances of beautiful red roses or its bouquet. As red is the color of love and also the specialty of this day, it can be seen in every nook and corner during this day. But unfortunately this is only the external appearance with no inner feeling of love. Today among the youngsters the meaning of love has been ruined. People have also become gullible in the name of love. Love has become just a feigning thing. Love for most of the youngsters has hit a cul de sac. There is also a common feeling that there are tricks to woo the one you love, this might be true but relationship thus formed will not sustain.

The only thing you can do to experience true love is to love selflessly. When love is selfless then there is no expectations and if there is no expectations then there will no sorrows(as you know expectations leads to sorrows)Many may find this sheer foolishness but if you just think of the purest love you had experienced in this world then you will come to know that its mother’s love which is selfless or unconditional. There may be a feeling that no one will respond to your selfless love but it’s not true. The key philosophy of Paulo Coelho’s novel Alchemist is “when you really want something to happen, the whole universe conspires so that your wish comes true” and this also stands true in case of love.

Love is a feeling that’s very pure
Its not just attraction or about lure
People doesn’t fall but rise in love
Its as innocent and gentle as dove
Don’t misunderstand it as lust
It purely depends on ones trust
Love doesn’t need to impress
Its just being true and selfless
Its not a joke or its not a jest
Its very beautiful and the best
