Destined to be together

The word “College” always reminds me of the campus romance, the canteen get togethers, watching movies with friends and fun. This story too is based on a college life

The first day of the degree college where everyone was jotting the time tables, checking out the instructions on the notice board and obviously making friends, there was this conspicuous gal, an extrovert who had already made a dozen friends and continuing to make more. With a spellbound accent, elegant Indian dressing, spectacles which was as if tailor made for her and the lips striking a smile had at least impressed a few dudes if not many.  Her name was Sonal.

In the crowd there was also this guy an extrovert who was not so good looking but had the charm and character to make friends easily. A person who never had any lusty thinking and respected every woman. His friends also teased him saying he can even fall in love with a prostitute without any bad intention. His name was Rishab

Rishab’s gaze felt on Sonal and was impressed but didn’t approach her for some reason. Days passed by and the friend groups was already been formed, Sonal and Rishab had separate groups. It happened to him for the first time where he was so conscious about talking to a gal as if he was making an effort. After all good things happen to good people, a debate competition came to his savior. Each team consisted of 2 members and there were 16 teams in total, to his astonishment Sonal was his team mate. They couldn’t win the competition but they did reach the finals and most importantly they became friends.

Without an effort by either of the two, they were getting close. The closeness came out so naturally as if the whole world had made a plan to get them together. There were a series of events such as the fresher’s party where Rishab and Sonal were crowned as Mr and Miss Personality respectively and also both were elected as the class CR at the same instance. It has been always said opposites attract but in this case god had his own plans. They enjoyed each other’s company. They went for movies and spent most of the time together. He was always awestruck by her beauty, her simplicity and her humbleness. She too had an inclination of attraction towards his witty answers and goodness.

Rishab finally surrendered to his senses and thought of proposing Sonal. It was a Saturday afternoon and they were enjoying a walk on the beach. The weather was so perfectly romantic with soft breeze and mellow drizzle. He had bought some 5 to 6 small gifts which were impeccably wrapped. Every time they had a halt he gave her one wrap and continued until he gave all of them. She was completely flattered not only because of the gifts and the way he gave but also the messages he had written inside every wrap. Finally they were in love.

All was going well until Abhinav knowing /unknowingly made an impact in their relationship. 

Abhinav was a completely reserved person, cunning and deceitful. Sonal and Abhinav were in the same group before she became friends with Rishab. She had once intimated Rishab about her differences with Abhinav and why she didn’t like him.

Rishab was not a kind who would dislike someone unless any of his loved ones made him aware of their discomfort. So Abhinav was disrated for him.

On the due course of time Rishab’s grandmother fell ill and he had to visit his native. He and Sonal were feeling a bit doomed as both have been together from the time they met. They both promised to be in touch via phone. To their dismal Rishab’s phone got stolen on his way to his native and also his grandmother expired. He had to stay long for a month as his dad was the only son of his grandmother.

After all the rituals of his grandmother Rishab returned after a month. He was not the usual cheerful one but a bit gloomy because of the happenings around him. From a far sight he saw Sonal and Abhinav together, he was a bit annoyed so didn’t went up to her for a chat. But as soon as Sonal came to know about Rishab’s return she was overwhelmed and searched for him all over and hugged him as soon as she saw him. The first question he asked was “what was she doing with Abhinav”, she just turned the question down and changed the topic. They chatted for a while and he too didn’t bring up the topic, but this was always there in the back of his mind.

He found them together in many instances after that but whenever he asked her, she felt uncomfortable and either she ignored or just laughed it through. Finally she decided to open her heart out to him as she was mentally very disturbed. She said “Abhinav was a guy who was involved in every bad activity in college, like drugs, ragging, extortion and even trafficking of gals. He was a making of a gangster. With no emotions whatsoever and also knew when to pitch, whom to pitch for drugs and there on how to blackmail them to get them involved in all wrong doings”. She also said that she was trapped by him for drugs and every fortnight he would give her drugs for consumption. The addiction of drugs was so that she was afraid about him forcing her to do some extremely wide of the mark things. She fell on her knees crying and pleaded Rishab to get her out of this, the panicky face was the sign of her fear. Rishab gave assurance that nothing would happen to her and left her home with a change in her confidence.

All night Rishab couldn’t sleep and was thinking about this. He knew how influential Abhinav was and it would be foolishness if he went for head on fight. He needed to plan something that would once for all finish his dread in the college.

Next day Rishab spoke to Sonal and advised her not to show any sign of relief on her face and be the way she was in these past days as he knew Abhinav would sense any change in attitude and would be more aware. He told Sonal about the plan of catching him red-handedly. She asked him whether she should call Abhinav and ask him for drugs because there were more 10 days remaining for the fortnight when she was supposed to meet him. Rishab wisely said any change in schedule would hint him, so let’s keep patience and be prepared for the right moment. Rishab had already informed the police about the plan and asked for their full support.

These 10 days was very long for Rishab and Sonal but finally the judgment day for them arrived. The stage was set for Abhinav’s entry with Rishab, Sonal and policemen all positioned perfectly. All were waiting with patience. There came the guy from far distance, he moved towards Sonal but to the dismay it was not Abhinav as the guy just passed her on his way. The usual time of appointment was over, still all were waiting but in vain as Abhinav didn’t turn up.

These series of incidences created doubt in both Sonal and Rishab’s mind as they felt Abhinav would have been already known the plan. Sonal was frightened as she imagined the consequence of Abhinav knowing about being back bitched. Even though Rishab too had the concerns he didn’t show any change in his facial expression but instead made her understand that this might just be a coincidence.

 Rishab’s tranquility was awarded, Sonal got a call from Abhinav saying he was stuck up with some other work, she too replied in a tone of a drug addict who was desperate for the stuff. For which Abhinav confirmed that he will be giving her stuff the next day.

This time Sonal, Rishab and policemen laid a perfect trap where Abhinav fell and was arrested. All the activities in the college led by him was fully uprooted.

Sonal’s drug addiction was medicated by Rishab’s love and care. They were once again together and happy.
